Mr. Lloyd Dennis Brasel, age 84, of Cobden passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 12:37 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. He was born July 15, 1928 in rural Cobden, the son of Andrew Jackson and Chloe Agnes Sharp Brasel. He married Wilma Vurline Clayton on August 29, 1953 in Cobden. This August he would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with Vurline. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Vurline Brasel of Cobden; daughters, Evelyn Brasel and Carla Chatham and his "favorite" beloved son in law, Jeff Chatham all of Cobden; brother, Ray Brasel of Anna; sister, Mary Lou Tucker of Anna; step sister, Claudia Jean Schulte; step brother, William "Collan" Hill; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald Sharp and Melvin Brasel; and one step sister, Mary J. Brice-Siebert. Lloyd thoroughly enjoyed his twenty-two years of retirement from SIU, his Church, traveling and working around the farm. He was a member and deacon of the Bethel Baptist Church in Cobden, teaching Sunday school for over fifty years. He was a fifty year lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #627 in Cobden. Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1952. Lloyd was instrumental in getting private phone lines, a blacktop road and public water along Wing Hill Road in Cobden. For many years he was the treasurer of the Kelly Cemetery Board. Funeral services for Mr. Lloyd Dennis Brasel will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Terry Kern officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church or the Kelly Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
