Mrs. Linda Irene Moss Tripp, age 65 of Cobden, departed this life at 3:05 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at her home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Linda was born in Anna, Illinois, on August 31, 1948, the daughter of Dan C. Moss and Mabel Irene Sullivan Moss. She married the love of her life, Ira Dugan Tripp, Sr. on June 5, 1966 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in rural Cobden, Illinois. The couple began their married life in Muncie, Indiana and moved to Cobden eight years later. Linda gave birth to two sons, Ira Dugan Tripp, Jr. on June 10, 1967 and Dustin Daniel Tripp on May 1, 1970. Linda is survived by her husband, Ira Dugan; sons and daughters-in-law Ira and Lisa of Buncombe, IL, Dustin and Adrienne Tripp of Cobden, IL; one brother, Michael Moss and wife Lannie, Marion, IL; one brother-in-law, Charles E. Tripp, Buncombe, IL; grandchildren, Michael Glenn Tripp, Logan Dustin Tripp, Alexis Ann Tripp, Madison Paige Hartline, and Kylie Mae Tripp; very special aunt, Mary "Aunt Meme" Howell of Glenview, IL and her husband, Richard; close friend, Geloria Jerrell, Buncombe, IL, she is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Dan C. and Mabel I. Moss; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn E. and Iragene Tripp. Linda lived for her family and was the center of many family celebrations through the years. She was an excellent cook and loved preparing the families favorite dishes on birthdays and holidays. Linda was a graduate of Marion High School in 1966. She later attended Shawnee Community College, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale graduating with honors. She completed bachelors and master's degrees through the College of Agriculture at SIUC. While attending SIUC she was employed as a graduate assistant in the College of Agriculture and upon graduation was hired by the College as a Medical Technologist, a position she held for several years. Linda accepted Christ as a young child and was baptized at Anna First Baptist Church. She is a former member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and was active in the Clear Creek Baptist Association. She was a member of Anna Heights Baptist Church, Anna, Illinois. She actively participated in church activities serving as Vacation Bible School Director for many years, member of the building committee, and the Baptist Women's mission groups. She taught Sunday school at the local nursing homes for several years. She was a member of the SIU Alumni Association, Garden Club, lifetime member of the NRA, Corvette Club, and member of the Ladies Eastern Star and past precinct committee member for Lick Creek. A special thank you to the loving church family and especially Linda's Sunday school class who prepared countless meals these past four years. Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Irene Moss Tripp will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 6 2014 in the Anna Heights Baptist Church with Kim Capel officiating. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 and after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 11:00 on Friday, June 6, 2014 in the Anna Heights Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the preferred form of remembrance is to the Anna Heights Baptist Church, Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
