Mr. Lawrence Boyer, age 87 of Anna, died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Anna Rehab and Nursing Center in Anna. He was born April 17, 1926 in Anna, Illinois; the son of Lawrence A. and Mae Pitts Boyer. He married Kedron Woodard on December 3, 1949 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002. Lawrence is survived by his daughter Kathy (Archie) Hazel of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Marcy (Andy) Bundren, Mandy Hazel all of Jonesboro, Megan Hazel of Charlotte, North Carolina; one great-grandson, Devin Hazel; three great-granddaughters, Mikayla, Miranda and Melaina Bundren; one sister, Virginia (Ernest) Boyd of Anna; and one sister in law, Joyce Boyer of Jackson, MO; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kedron Boyer; and one brother, Kenneth Boyer. Lawrence was a 1944 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1944-1946, during the WWII in the South Pacific. Lawrence worked for Campbell and Denny Trucking before going to working for the City of Anna in 1959 as a policeman. He retired in 1988 after sixteen years as the Chief of Police and fifteen years as the Fire Chief. After retirement he served two terms on the Anna City Council. He loved to bowl and enjoyed working in the garden. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Anna, a member of the Coal Belt; he held lifetime memberships to the Illinois Police Association, the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of Southern Illinois and to the wonderful staff of the Anna Rehab and Nursing Center. Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence Boyer will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Les Sinks officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Graveside funeral honors will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Military Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 p.m. at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Anna, the Anna Police or Fire Department, Hospice of Southern Illinois or the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
