Mr. Larry L. Tripp Sr., age 70 of Anna, died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born March 25, 1944 in Anna, the son of John Jefferson and Sylvia Marie Smith Tripp. Larry is survived by his daughter, Angela Marie Tripp M.D. of St. Louis, MO; two sons, Larry L. Tripp Jr. of Anna, J. Adam Tripp and Adam's fiancé Karen S. Carwlye, her children, Anthony, Sadie, and William Carwyle all of Anna; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooke Tripp, Rachael Nicole Tripp both of Jonesboro; two great grandchildren, Connor Stanley and RyLynn Turner; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. During his career in Law Enforcement, Larry served as a special deputy for the Union County Sheriff's Department from 1962-1965; then served as the Chief of Police for the City of Jonesboro from 1965 to 1969, and from 1971 to 1974 as an officer for the City of Anna. He was proudly elected in 1974 as the Sheriff of Union County and served with honor until 1982. Larry was passionate about the oath he took to protect and serve the people of Union County, he did so through his career in Law Enforcement as well as through the years after he took off his badge. Larry started Papa J's Pizza Room in Carterville and Jonesboro. He owned and operated Illinois Mobile Homes in Carbondale, Diamond T. Construction and the Hickory House BBQ in Anna. He was a member of the Anna First Baptist Church. Larry was an avid outdoors man and an accomplished marksman, he enjoyed hunting, and fishing. Throughout his life he won many shooting competitions, including a national title while he was Sheriff. Funeral services for Mr. Larry L. Tripp Sr. will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Sheriff's Association.
