Larry E. "Smiley" Burnett, age 72 of Cobden died on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born September 22, 1947 in Cobden the son of Robert H and Helen (Brown) Burnett. Larry was the business manager for the Local Labor 227. He was also a delegate to Southern and Central laborer district council. He was also previously the President of Labor Local 773 retirement council. He was the administrator of the Moose, pilgrim at the Moose, and was one of the top recruiters for the Moose in the state of Illinois. He was a member of the Cobden Masonic Lodge, active in the Laborers fund raising money for Children's Therapy Center, active in raising money for the Masonic Lodge Children's Home. Larry was very involved with the Masonic Lodge in Murphysboro in collecting items and assembling Easter Baskets for local children. Larry was an amazing sandwich artist for Subway in Anna when his daughter owned the store. Larry was extremely active participant in many activities and fund raisers in the community. He will be missed.Larry is survived by his special life partner, Sharon Bracken of Cobden; children, Carla Burnett of Anna, Tracy (Cathy) Thompson of Cobden, Stacy (Blaine) Kelley Funkhouser of Carlinville, Amy (Curt Sawyer) Newberry of Anna, Kimberly (Josh )Wright of Jonesboro, Mackenzie (George Scott) Bracken of Cobden; grandchildren, Kevin Starr Jr., Ashley Starr, Haley Bell, Lisa Hileman, Brandi Watkins, Maddison Thompson, Wyatt Funkhouser, Josh Kelley, Ridge Funkhouser, Draver Glaab, Chaden Jordan, Tyesen Newberry, Zoey Newberry, Jacob Wright, Nataleigh Wright, Addilyn Scott, and Aubree Scott; sixteen great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Dennis Nance officiating. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery in Alto Pass with Military Rites performed by Carrol P. Foster Post #3455 in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honor Team of Marion. Visitation will be on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with full Masonic Rites starting at 7:00 pm. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
