Kimberly Ann Cates, age 59 of Anna, died suddenly Wednesday, October 7, 2026 in St. Louis, MO. She was born April 22, 1967, the daughter of Ron and Janice (Brimm) Garner. She married Jeff Cates on July 22, 1989.
Kim is survived by her husband, Jeff Cates; her pride and joy, Samantha Cates (fiancé, Ethan Kirkman); parents, Ron and Janice Garner; sister, Rhonda (Scott) Abernathy; brother-in-law, Pat (Laura) Cates; nieces, Hillary (Dusty) Miller, Hailey Abernathy, Jessie Cates (Bryan Todd); fur baby Rip; many other extended family and a world of friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Ed and Carolyn Cates; brother-in-law, Tracy Cates; and fur baby Teddy.
Kim and her family started R & J Country Living back in 1994. Though not always easy running the family business it was very rewarding to her, as this was her calling. Kim loved to laugh and enjoy life, when she was around it was always a party. She loved to sit on the back deck with a cup of coffee, watch her hummingbirds and admire her flowers. Family was everything to Kim, cookouts, get-togethers or just a quick visit, everyone was always welcome and loved.
She was always there to help anyone that needed anything. Kim was always ready to go with Jeff, wherever they went, it was always the long way home in the “burb”. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the love she shared.
