Rev. Kenneth Carroll Mixen, age 77 of Buncombe, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2019 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born December 7, 1941 in Union County, the son of Ed and Ruby (Youngblood) Mixen. He married Janet Carter on December 24, 1961 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Buncombe. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of fifty eight years, Janet Mixen of Buncombe; two daughters, Carol Mixen McHughes of Anna (who was always there when Kenneth was sick, he would say "call Carol") Susan (Benny) Joles of Clarksville, TN; son, Doug (Jeanne) Mixen of Buncombe; grandchildren, K.C. (Amber) McHughes, Josh Mixen, Jason (Stephanie) Joles, Lyndsay (Nick) Sandmann, April Joles (Brosef), Caleb Mixen (Danielle Brothers), Kimberly (Dalton) Myers; great-grandchildren, Brody, Kody, Lillie-Ann, Serenity, Ashlynn, Chloe, Ava, Alexis, Tristin, Tanner, Caden, Vayda, Juniper, Olive, Kiley, Kaitlyn, Daultan, Kamdyn, Laighton who always stayed with Papa and helped care for him. Laighton always told Papa, "I'm keeping you up with the times" and showed him how to do cool things like fist bump, and Matthew who will be arriving in December. Kenneth always said to the kids, "If you study hard you may grow up to be president." He is also survived by his brother, Phillip (Marjorie) Mixen of FuQuay, NC; sisters in law, Mary Brannon of Houston, TX and Sue Mixen of Dixon; many nieces and nephews, cousins; faithful companions, Maggie and Lula; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; in laws, Vern & Rosa Carter; brothers, Bob, Darrell, and Donald Mixen; sisters, Gladys Carter, Betty Shelton, Geraldine Delhotel, Carolyn Crowell and Jean Ferrell. Kenneth was a member of the Anna First Baptist Church. He worked thirty five years as a custodian and bus driver for Lick Creek School. All the kids loved him and he always wore his keys on his belt. Still today memories that adults have that attended Lick Creek school remember running by Kenneth and pulling on his key chain. Kenneth was a member of the Union Masonic Lodge in Lick Creek and the Anna Order of the Eastern Star. He surrendered to the ministry in 1971. He was pastor of the Limestone Baptist Church in Cobden, Friendship Baptist Church in Dongola and the Immanuel Baptist Church in Cobden. He retired in 2010 due to health reasons. After retirement he was the supply pastor for various churches in the area and always made new Christian friends. His wish was to see all his family committing their lives to Jesus Christ so that one day they would all be together in heaven. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Les Sinks and Rev. Ken Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the McGinnis Cemetery . Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home.
