Mr. Kenneth H. Kohler, age 93 of Anna, died at 11:24 a.m. Sunday, October 2 ,2016 in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. He was born January 22, 1923 in Anna, the son of William H. and Cora (Meisenheimer) Kohler. He married Dorothy E. Bowen on October 20 1945 in Jonesboro. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2011. Kenneth is survived by his two daughters, Sharon Kohler (David Futrell) of Carbondale, and Linda (Jeff) Webb of Anna; one grandson, K.W. Carter (Tammy Wheaton) of Makanda; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy E. Kohler; grandson, Tim Sadler; and two brothers. Kenneth was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro, where currently he was the oldest member. Early in his career he worked for the State of Illinois for the Department of Corrections and later transferred to the Illinois State Police where he retired after twenty five years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was the recipient of two purple hearts and a bronze star medal. He was a member of the Anna Masonic Lodge #520 and Past Master, member of the Shriners, and the Anna Kiwanis. He served as Police Commissioner and Mayor for the City of Anna, during his time as mayor he was instrumental in commissioning the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth H. Kohler will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Mark Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Military Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Masonic rites will be said at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
