Karen F. Gardner, age 57 of Jonesboro, died Thursday, February 22, 2018 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. She was born April 8, 1960 in Carbondale, the daughter of Ronald Dean and Mildred Lois (Hoyle) Stanley. She married Roger Gardner on May 1, 1990 in Jonesboro. Karen is survived by her husband, Roger Gardner; son, Richard Stanley of Carbondale; daughter, Sarah Gardner of Jonesboro; step mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Whaley of Cobden; brothers and sisters, Ronald Dean Stanley Jr. of Cobden, Janis Lynn (Kenneth) Dunn of Carbondale, Terry Allen (Donna) Stanley of Cobden, Julie Ann (Spencer) McDonald of Gering, NE, Sheila Marie (David) Rexroat of Wildwood, MO, Shelly Gaye Parker of Gering, NE, Juanita Lucille (Billie) Plott of Anna, and Renee Patterson of Carbondale; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mildred "Millie" Etherton. Karen was a very active member of the Anna First Baptist Church for many years. She proudly served her country in the United States Army. Karen worked for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services as a Case Worker. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 in the Anna First Baptist Church with Pastor John Stanley officiating.
