Judith Ann (Sanders) Etherton

Judith Ann "Judy" Etherton, age 84 of Alto Pass, passed away, June 26, 2025 at Manor Court in Carbondale. She was born April 14, 1941 in Wolf Lake, the daughter of Thomas and Mildred (Hale) Sanders. She married Paul Etherton on June 27, 1959. He preceded her in death December 16, 2009.

Judy is survived by her children, Greg Etherton of Alto Pass, Mike Etherton of Cobden, Sarah and husband, Steve Wilkins of Alto Pass; grandchildren, Amanda Etherton, Joseph Etherton, Rachel Etherton, Kody Travelstead and Amanda Wilkins; great-grandchildren, Elijah Glasco and Jonah Etherton; brother, Thomas Sanders and sister, Betty Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; and sister, Sharon Smith.

Judy attended Alto Pass grade school and high school and graduated from Trico High School when her father's job took them to Percy. After she and Paul were married, they moved to Granite City. The love for the Alto Pass area brought them back in 1980. Judy held the office of mayor and served the village board for many years. She enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers, raising various animals, sewing, hunting, cooking and collecting recipes. She had a true passion for researching genealogy and could tell you all about it.

Judy was of the Christian faith; she spent much time in study throughout her life and was a supporter of the Bald Knob Cross of Peace.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Pastor Davy Miller officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. In honor of Judy, memorial contributions are preferred to the Bald Knob Cross of Peace. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
