Joseph M. Merk, age 92 of Jonesboro, died at 5:05 am, Friday, February 25, 2011 at the St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born October 3, 1918 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Joseph and Grace (Johnson) Merk. Joseph married Evelyn Turner on August 10, 1947 in Jonesboro. He proudly served his country during WW2 while in the United States Army.Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Merk of Jonesboro; one son, John (Patricia) Merk of Fayette, MO; two daughters, Jane (Michael) Leavitt of St. Louis, MO, Martha (Anthony) Lococo of Florissant, MO; four grandchildren, Jennifer Williams, Andrew Lococo, Krista Evans and Michelle Merk; three great-grandchildren, James Williams, Sophia Lococo, Maren Merk, and two more expected;two brothers-in-law, Henry Lange of Chesterfield, MO, and Burl Turner of Anna, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Lange. Funeral services for Joseph will be conducted on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Scott Harner officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour at 1:00pm. Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Team at the graveside.
