John Michael Spiess

Mr. John Michael Spiess, age 65 of Anna, died at 1:42 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at his home. He was born May 11, 1948 in Chicago, the son of John Spiess Sr and Lucille Gigliello. He married Alisa Lange on June 15, 1983 in Marion, IL. John is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Alisa Spiess of Anna; two daughters, Nikki (Dwayne) Burrows of Anna, Lori (Dave) Cowsert of Ewing, IL; two brothers, Woodrow (Debbie) Lyell of Herrin, Joe (Chris) Lyell of Colp; one sister, Pat Skelton of Benton; sister in law, Maryanne (Mike) Finefield of Cary, IL; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Lucille and Woodrow Lyell; one daughter, Rachel Spiess and one son, John Spiess. John attended the Anna Heights Baptist Church for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He worked for Choate Mental Health Center for 25 years as an LPN. He was an avid book reader; he loved to work on lawn mowers and collected watches. John was a loving father, husband and friend; and dearly loved spending time with his family. Memorial services for Mr. John Michael Spiess will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Anna Heights Baptist Church in Anna with Pastor Darryl Williams officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
