Joe Lyerla

Mr. Joe Lyerla, age 66 of Jonesboro, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his home. He was born June 5, 1950 in Anna, the son of Milas Edward and Zula Fay (Smith) Lyerla. He married Velma Brim on September 26, 1970 in McClure. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2001. Joe is survived by his son, Joseph Hank Lyerla of Jonesboro; daughter, Carla Garrett of Dongola; step-daughter, Clarissa Poole of Carbondale; grandchildren, Dylan, Austin, Kassidy and Wyatt Lyerla, Micki Jo (Chris) Woods, Brett, Molly, and Makayla Swink; step-grandson, Demontre Perkins; one great grandchild, Sophia Rose Woods; brothers and sisters, Louise Hyde of TN, Lynda (Jim) Mosby of Elgin, Shirley (Gordan) Myers of Aurora, Milas Richard (Linda) Lyerla of Columbus, OH, Elaine (Steve) Shepard of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jim Lyerla of Anna and Carolyn (Scott) Ury of Anna; brother in law, Ronnie Casey of Keithsburg; nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma Lyerla; daughter, Tonya Louise Lyerla; and sister, Bonnie Casey. Joe worked many years as a skilled carpenter. He was an avid fisherman; he dearly loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. Joe felt blessed to have a loving family and many friends. Graveside services for Mr. Joe Lyerla will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016 in the Anna City Cemetery with Rev. Billy Carter officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. A celebration of life will be at the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 V.F.W. in Anna immediately following the graveside service. Everyone is invited to attend. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home and at the cemetery and the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455.
