Mrs. Jewell Hunter, age 100 of Jonesboro, died at 12:48 a.m. Wednesday, February, 1, 2012 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. She was born November 18, 1911 in Elco, the daughter of Henry and Drucilla Marshlee Baldwin Smithey. She married Morris Hunter on April 8, 1931 in Pulaski County. He preceded her in death in 1989.Jewell is survived by her two children, Donna Jean Hancock of Scottdale, Georgia and Karol (Deborah) Hunter of Stonefort, IL; seven grandchildren, Kerry Don Hunter of DuQuoin, Lisa Hunter (Wayne) Downs of Salem, Kyle David (Laura) Hunter of Cape Girardeau, MO, Tania Ann (John) Davis of Auburn, GA, Sue Ellen (John) Green of Charleston, SC, Michael Hunter of Jonesboro, and Dr. Pamela Hunter-Reach and Dr. Brian Reach of Anna; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morris; one son, Donald Hunter; thirteen brothers and sisters; two daughters in law, Elaine Hunter and Charlene Hunter Powles; one son in law, Lawrence Hancock; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas Downs and Benjamin Reach. Jewell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tamms for many years. Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Hunter will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February, 3, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Pastor David Eidson officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery near Dongola. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the donor's choice.
