Janis Shannon, age 75 of Jonesboro, died Monday, April 12, 2021 at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born February 18, 1946 in Anna, the daughter of George Franklin and Magdalene Elizabeth (Holshouser) Whiteside. She married Curtis Shannon on October 26, 1979 in Anna. Janis is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Curt Shannon of Jonesboro; sister, Janet (Wayne) Mears; brother, Wayne (Doris) Whiteside all of Anna; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister Kay McRaven. Janis was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in Cobden. She retired from the First National Bank in Jonesboro. For the last 21 years Janis has lived with Parkinson's Disease. She has been a patient and participated in research with Dr. Racette at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. It is the hope that others will benefit through his many years of research. Graveside services will be at 1:30 Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Alto Pass Cemetery with Doug Bicket officiating. Interment will immediately follow. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Washington University School of Medicine, Racette Research. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home. Contributions may be dropped off at the funeral home or mailed to Washington University Office of Medical Research C/O Emily Williams 7425 Forsythe RD Campus Box 1247 St. Louis, MO 63105. Everyone attending will be required to wear face coverings and observe social distancing guidelines.
