Janis J. "Jan" (Alexander) Smith

Janis J. "Jan" Smith, age 82 of Anna, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 6, 1943, in Decatur, the daughter of Francis and Lorene (Wright) Alexander. She married Clarence Smith on August 25, 1963, in Decatur. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2011.

Jan is survived by her children, Shelly (Alan) Stadelbacher of Anna and Gregg (Anna) Smith of Maryville; grandchildren, Lukus A. and Tanner M. Stadelbacher and Payton Jeene Smith; brother, James (Marcia) Alexander; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Joseph A. Smith and a special nephew, Ken Smith.

Jan was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, Delta Theta Tau, Anna-Jonesboro Garden Club and the Anna Chamber of Commerce. She also served on the Teen Town board. She, along with her husband Clarence, owned and operated Smith's Clothing and Smith Motors. For many years, she served our community as a social worker at various senior care facilities and at Choate Mental Health and Development Center.  Jan enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, and bird watching. She loved spending time with her family and the "birthday group".

Funeral services for Jan Smith will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Stevie Guined officiating. Interment will follow in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am until the service time at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes are available at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home.
