Janet Verble

Janet Verble, age 83 of Jonesboro, went home to be with her Lord, August 28, 2018 in the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was born January 13, 1935 in Jonesboro, the daughter of Ernest and Susie Isabel (Earnhart) Tripp. She married Donald Verble on December 22, 1953 in Anna. Together they shared sixty-four years of marriage. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2017. Janet is survived by her son, Donald Verble Jr. of Jonesboro and daughter, Joy (David) Roberts of Mt. Carmel; six grandchildren, Brandon (Tara) Sharp, Justin (Alicia) Sharp, Matt (Sara) Verble, Kyle Verble, Brooke (Mike) Ile and Tyler Roberts; six great grandchildren, Alaina & Eason Ile, Silas Roberts, Ethan Sharp, Alex Sharp and Jacob Sharp; sister, Betty Jane Lorton of South Bend, IN; brothers, Tom (Carolyn) Tripp of Anna and Gary (Darlene) Tripp of Houston, TX; sister in law, Carlene Tripp of Anna; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald W. Verble; daughters, Jan Sharp and Vicki Lingle; daughter in law, Teresa Verble; brothers, Don Tripp and Jerry W. Tripp. Janet loved her Lord very much and served him faithfully at the First Baptist Church in Anna for many years teaching Sunday school, vacation bible school, women missionary union, church fellowship chairman, family ministry chairman, hospitality chairman and many other places of responsibilities. She loved her family, friends and many other folks she became acquainted with while working with the U.S. Postal Service. Janet worked for many years at the Post Office in Jonesboro, worked at the Post Office in Anna and filled in at Cobden, Dongola and Tamms when needed. She was a postmaster at the Wolf Lake post office and the Alto Pass post office and retired from there after serving for thirty-two years. Janet did a lot of volunteer work after retiring and was selected as the outstanding volunteer of the year for Union County in 2007 for work done in 2006. She made many chicken and dumplings for the Relay for Life Cancer dinners at the Anna First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Les Sinks officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmi Baptist Children's Home or the Family Ministry Committee of the First Baptist Church of Anna. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
