Janet Sue Turner, age 67 of Anna, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. She was born May 9, 1958 in Dover, Delaware, the daughter of Franklin Henry and Pauline (Daggett) Powles. She married Alexander Turner Jr. on September 21, 1980.
Janet is survived by her son, Alex and wife Amber Turner of Jonesboro; daughter, Kalanani Turner-Cutrell and husband Allan; three grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew Turner both of Jonesboro, Christopher Allan Cutrell of Anna; two brothers, Peter and wife Donna Powles of New York, Dana and wife Jackie Powles of South Carolina; other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alexander Turner Jr.
Janet was a wonderful person, a true humanitarian. Her true calling in life was helping others. She cared for her husband and family all while working multiple jobs without hesitation to provide for her family, that's just who she was. After receiving her Bachelor degrees from Southern Illinois University she went to work for Tri-County Education in Anna as a teacher. Janet made a difference in numerous lives of the students she taught throughout the years.
Beyond her professional life, Janet found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and was one with mother earth, spending many hours connecting with nature through her love of gardening and plants. Her love for her family was unmeasurable, her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Her warmth, wisdom and unwavering compassion will be deeply missed not only by her family and friends but also the countless hearts she touched in our community.
