Mr. James Oliver Robinson, 91, of Oak Park, California, formerly of Anna, died March 7, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born November 21, 1919 in Anna, the son of John and Lina Fred Oliver Robinson. He married Margie Long on November 21, 1999 in Champaign, IL. James is survived by his wife Margie of Oak Park, CA; one step-son, Chris; one granddaughter, Jenna; one sister, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Robinson Eisner of Champaign, IL; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Olive Robinson Hunter; and one brother, John Frederic Robinson. Jim was a graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1937. He was a letterman in track and field; his specialty was high jumping, placing third in the statewide championship. During college at the University of Illinois he majored in Psychology and received three varsity letters in track and field for the high jump. He was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity, returning regularly to campaign for Homecoming gatherings with his fraternity brothers and family visits. After graduation, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1941 and spent four years in service to our country during World War II. Jim worked in Chicago and then moved to Los Angeles during the early 1950's. He worked in public relations and was an avid tennis player. Playing two to three times a week well into his 80's. He enjoyed following Illinois sports. Jim was dearly loved by his family and friends, his bright smile and quick wit will be missed by all. Graveside funeral services for Mr. James Oliver Robinson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Anna Cemetery with Rev. Randy Carstens officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
