James Ronald Riley

November 2, 1942 — June 12, 2023

Anna, Illinois

James R. Riley went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2023. Jim was born November 2, 1942 in Metropolis. Jim grew up on the farm in Karnak raised by his parents Ralph and Helen Anderson. Jim grew up on the family farm and had many adventures with his brothers Larry and Kenny.  Jim fondly shared many stories about his time growing up there. In high school he ran track and played basketball for the Karnak Red Raiders.

Jim graduated from Anna Jonesboro high school in 1960. It was there that Jim met the love of his life, the former Mary Karraker. They were married on May 5, 1961.  They had five children, Cathy, Susan, James Jr. David, and Adam. They raised their family in Chicago where Jim worked for F.W. Woolworth for over three decades. Jim was an avid golfer, he loved to play with his dad and his brothers as well with Tim Testerman and son Jimmy. Jim has a good sense of humor, often telling corny jokes. He loved his family, he worked hard, and was a good provider.

He was a lover of biscuits and gravy, which over the years became a fixture for every visit. In March of 1979, Jim made the most important decision of his life. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. That decision changed the course of his life and his eternity. He was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at both the Crawford Bible Church in Chicago and the Lockard Chapel in Jonesboro. Jim was used on occasion to fill the pulpit when the need arose.

Jim retired in 1997 and moved to Anna and loved living there with Mom and Adam. He worked in his retirement about ten years at Walmart.  He spent the last nine months of his life in Athens Alabama.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Larry, his wife Mary, and children Susan and Adam. Jim is survived by a daughter Cathy Acosta of Chicago, a son James Riley (Jody) of Townville PA, a son David riley (Tracy) of Langhorn, PA; grandchildren, Jorge, Suzanna, James III, Jonathan, and Kim; great grandchildren Peyton, Samantha, and Nicholas. Jim has left a profound influence on his family, and friends, there was no one like him.

Jim spoke often of his love for his Savior Jesus Christ. He is now in his presence. His faith has become sight.
