James A. Basse

Mr. James A. Basse, age 80 of Jonesboro, died at 9:03 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Saint Francis Hospital in Cape. He was born on April 29, 1936 in Wyandotte, MI the son of Alvin James and Hazel Frances (Meyer) Basse. He married Carolyn Sweitzer on December 2, 1966 in Cobden. James was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan, and was of the Methodist Faith. James proudly served in the United States Army. James retired from SIU in Carbondale where he was a driver for the Physical Plant for many years. James is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Basse of Jonesboro; three children, Julie (Don) Hamilton of Ava, Christy Basse of Jonesboro, and Jeff Basse of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Kelly Hamilton, and Kayla Hamilton both of Ava; one sister, Nancy (Jerry) Womick of Ohio; an aunt, Ruth Hankla of Anna, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Mr. James A. Basse will be at 1:00 pm p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Billy Carter officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Hospital. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
