Jacqueline L. "J'ke" McCann fortified by the sacraments of Holy Mother Church departed this life, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:14 pm in her home. J'ke was born 10/6/48 to William L. and Shirley (nee Cross) Casper. The family lived on a farmstead in rural Cobden owned by her grandfather Donald Casper. J'ke spent her formative years in Anna, Golconda, McLeansboro and Carbondale. She was a graduate of SIU-C earning BS and MS degrees. Her summative degree was a Specialist in Educational Administration (1997) earned from Eastern Illinois University. J'ke was involved in several aquatic programs in Southern Illinois these included: Riverside Pool, Carbondale YMCA, Campus Lake, Pulliam Pool, and Jackson Country Club. She taught hundreds of children to swim over a 30-year period. Her most recent employment was with Cobden District #17. She worked as a teacher, counselor and administrator at Cobden for over a quarter of a century.Lung cancer allowed her to enter the House of the Lord earlier than anticipated.Left to cherish her memories and mourn her passing include: her husband Charles D. McCann of 40 years, her mother Shirley Casper (Carbondale)children: Jamie (Jeff and granddaughter Elizabeth) Howard of Washington, DC, Chad (Kelly and granddaughter Jaycee) of Kevil, KY. Other survivors include: brother Donald and nephew Dee Casper, brother-in-laws/spouses and children: Jim (Terri) McCann, Maurice (Suzanne) McCann, Robert (Mary Sue) McCann and Pat (Donna) McCann. Close friends mourning her loss include but are not limited to: the SIU tailgate crew, Wendi Adams, Linda Wiggs, Karl Sweitzer, the Carr and Twenhafel Families.Services for Jacqueline will be at 1 pm from St. Andrew's Church in Murphysboro on Monday, May 30, 2011. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow at the Valle Spring Cemetery, Ste. Genevieve, MO. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jacqueline's life commencing at approximately 4:00 pm at the "Old Brick" located on the square in Ste. Genevieve.Memorials may be made to St. Andrew's School, Cobden Unit District #17 "Ms. McCann Scholarship", or the Valle Auction.
