Jack Yates, Sr.

Mr. Jack L. Yates Sr., age 73 of Cobden, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born April 18, 1940 in Cobden, the son of Paul Yates and Louise Jackson Shelton. He married Dianna Barnhart on December 7, 1973 in Granite City. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Dianna Yates of Cobden; children, Christy (Billy) Null of Cobden, Jay Yates of Key West, FL., Wendy Krome of St. Charles, MO, Aaron Parko of Fairview Heights, Jack (Liz) Yates Jr. of Carbondale; mother, Louise Shelton of Cobden; seven grandchildren, Christopher Null, Kelly (Jason) Orr, Kristina (Joe) Carraway, D.J. Krome, Kenzie Krome, Griffin Parko, Jack Yates III; five great grandchildren, Jaycee McCann, Brady Orr, Elise Ren, E.J. Norman, Stephen Carraway; one brother, Larry (Susan) Yates of Cobden; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Jack was a member of the First Baptist church of Cobden and served as a Trustee for the church. During his life he owned and operated the Yates Mobile Service Station in Granite City and later the Farm Fresh in Carbondale. He was a member of the Cobden Masonic Lodge #466, the Shriners and the B MEN at the First Baptist Church in Cobden. Funeral services for Mr. Jack L. Yates Sr. will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 in the First Baptist Church in Cobden with Rev. Ed Falgout officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 in the First Baptist Church in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to the B MEN Men's Group at the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the Church and at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
