Jack L. Miller, age 82 of Mill Creek, died Friday, February 28, 2025 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born July 7, 1942 in Anna, the son of Owen and Chloe (Miller) Miller. He married Iris Smith on April 4, 1970.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Iris Miller; siblings, Marilyn Miller, Ron (Angie) Miller, Cheryl (Tony) Milam, John David (Clarinda) Miller, Nancy (Chuck) Bero, Berry (Beth) Miller, Randy Miller, Kathy (Scott) Grulke; adoptive brother, Wayne "Rooster" Dunning; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Dena Miller and Cathy Miller; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Marvin Miller, Harold Miller and Rodger Miller; and sister-in-law, Carol Miller.

Jack graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1960. After graduation he went to work for WareCo in Danville. He later moved to Elgin and operated his own service station until he was inducted into the Army on April 16, 1964. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on April 13, 1966. During his time in the Army, he was an engineer and was awarded an Expert Marksman Certification in the 5th Artillery Regiment. Jack was always very proud of his service to his country.

After his time in the military, he returned home to Elgin and worked at WareCo until he purchased Lark & Shell Service Station. He ran the station for twenty-five years with his partner, and lifelong friend, Barry Poole. Jack later went to work for the USPS until his retirement when he moved back to Southern Illinois.

He enjoyed working on the farm, hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. His favorite times were when his family and friends would gather at his hunting cabin on his childhood farm. For many years he enjoyed taking his nephews hunting and teaching them all about his love for nature and the outdoors. Back in his younger years Jack enjoyed bowling and playing softball. Jack served on the St. John's Cemetery Board and was very active in various civic projects in the community.

Jack was always loving and loyal to his friends and family and would do anything he could for anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery west of Dongola. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. and until the service at noon on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the A.L.S. Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
