Mr. Oran "Jack" Lamer, age 91 of Anna, died at 3:08 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born November 15, 1925 in Cobden, the son of Lawrence and Lena (Angell) Lamer. He married Jean (Casper) on March 9, 1955 in Jackson, MO. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2004. Jack is survived by his brother Tom (Judy) Lamer of Jerseyville; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Berry of Cobden and Bob Stegle of Manteno; two great grandchildren, Noah Lamer and Kaelyn Lamer; twenty-one nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean Lamer; son, Jay Lamer; grandson, Levi Lamer; three brothers, Frederick Lamer, Gordon (Hazel) Lamer and George (Gail) Lamer; five sisters, Elaine (Charles) Rude, Betty (Victor) Knox, Marilyn (Donald) Lewis, Carolyn Stegle and Loretta Berry. Jack was a member and trustee of the Union Congregational Church of Cobden. Jack joined the Naval Air Force on March 26, 1943. He worked at Cobden Schools as a teacher, principle and coach from the years 1953 to 1990. He was inducted into the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame in 1988 and into the Cobden Hall of Fame in January in 2015. He was a Master Mason and a lifetime member of Cobden American Legion Post 0259. The family wanted to thank the staff at the Veteran's Home in Anna for their excellent care. Funeral services for Oran "Jack" Lamer will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Bryan Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 and after 10:00 a.m. until the service hour at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Masonic rites will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 16 by the Cobden Masonic Lodge #466 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cobden Cemetery, Illinois Veterans Home in Anna or to the Illinois Masonic Charities Funds. Memorial envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
