Ida May (Macy) Smith

Ida May Smith, age 103 of Anna, died Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Voyage Senior Living of Anna. She was born on June 2, 1920 in DuQuoin, the daughter of William R. and Myrtle (Gilbreath) Macy. She married Merle R. Smith on December 11, 1957 in Corinth, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1988.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, June Qualls; four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; a special "adopted" granddaughter, Stephanie Rhodes; a nephew, Gaylon (Goldie) Cruse; other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, including the other residents at the Voyage, especially Trudy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepson and a brother, William Macy.

Ida worked at the Florsheim Shoe Factory in Anna until her retirement in 1975. She loved animals and enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was a strong, independent woman that loved living in her country home near Alto Pass. She was able to stay there, even mowing her own yard, up to the age of 95 before moving to the Voyage.

Family and friends of Ida May Smith will host a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 at The Voyage Senior Living of Anna, 151 Denny Drive, Anna, IL. Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Alto Pass assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses.
