Mr. Hobart Rendleman Clutts, age 90 of Cobden, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at his home on Skyline Drive in Cobden. He was born November 22, 1921 in Cobden, the son of Hobart William and Mary Rendleman Clutts. He married Geraldine Verble on October 13, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2007. Hobart is survived by one daughter, Sheleigh (Bill) Belongy of Clewiston, Florida; one son, Rodney (Kelli) Clutts of Anna; six grandchildren, Brett Witthoft of Anna; Erin (Michael) Pearson of Mone di Procida, Italy; Tyler (Kasey) Clutts of Jonesboro; Emily (Mistee) Clutts of Cypress, Stephanie (Dan) Stoelb of Versailles, Kentucky; Rachel Clutts of Cobden; three great grandchildren, Brennan and Eli Pearson of Mone di Procida, Italy, Maggie Clutts of Jonesboro; twelve nieces and nephews; family friend, Susan Steck of Cobden; other relatives and many friends. Hobart was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine Clutts; three siblings, Charles Lee Clutts, Herbert Walter Clutts, and Margaret Carolyn Clutts Flamm. The family would like to give thanks to his caregivers for the past two years, Alice Arnaud, Janet Dabbs & Kim Richardson. Hobart was known to many as H.R. or Junior. He lived his entire life in Cobden and was a business man and leader in the community. After graduating from Cobden High School in 1939, H.R. was drafted into the Army in 1941. When he finished his tour of duty in Europe with the 301st Battalion, he was commissioned Captain and awarded the Silver star for leadership and bravery. He returned home and attended Normal University (SIU) and became partner in the fruit and vegetable brokerage business, known as J.R. Clutts & Son. He retired from the business at the age of 62. During his lifetime, H.R. had a variety of interests including civic service. He served on the board of directors at the First National Bank of Cobden, the Cobden School Board #17. He was a member and past commander of the Cobden American Legion Post #259. He was a member of the Union County Country Club. Some of his hobbies and activities included fishing, hunting, growing fruits and vegetables. He especially loved golfing. In recent years he enjoyed bird watching and feeding and outdoor work. Funeral services for Mr. Hobart Rendleman Clutts will be at 11:00 Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Military Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to Bald Knob Cross or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden and Anna.
