Herman L. Stokes

Mr. Herman L. Stokes, age 94 of Lick Creek, died at 1:35 A.M., Saturday January 23, 2016 at his home. Herman was born on July 3, 1921 in Buncombe, the son of Matthew and Lucinda (Keller) Stokes. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Rich on October 22, 1943 in Jackson, Missouri. Herman is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Stokes of Lick Creek; two daughters, Jeannie Parr and Carol Watkins, both of Lick Creek; one son, Matt (Donna) Stokes of Lick Creek; four grandchildren, Chandler (Sherri ) Parr, Tim (Kim) Parr, Jennifer (B.J.) Stokes, Ashley (Jeremy) Cookson; ten great-grandchildren, Chandra Kaye, Zack and Jake Parr, Travis and Brady Woodworth, Clayton Smith, Bella and Gracie Cook and Ryker and Cru Cookson and one niece, Barbara Adams of Anna. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim and Lowell Stokes and two sons-in-law, Mike Watkins and P.L. Parr. Herman was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a WWII veteran. Herman was a former Union County Commissioner and he was past president of the Lick Creek School Board. He was also past member of the Anna-Jonesboro High School Board. He was a lifelong farmer and dairy farmer. Funeral services for Mr. Herman L. Stokes will be held at 12:00 P.M., Tuesday January 26, 2016 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Interment will be in the McGinnis Cemetery with Military rites conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the VFW of Anna. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday January 26, 2016 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church or to the McGinnis Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
