Henry Colson

Henry Colson, age 78 of Carbondale, formerly of Makanda died Sunday, August 19, 2018 in the Integrity Healthcare in Marion. He was born April 10, 1940 in Walnut Ridge, AR, the son of Lonnie and Opal (Crowe) Colson. He married Ethel R. "Dolly" Hagler on March 9, 1960 in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on August 14, 2016. Henry is survived by his children, Virgil (Tabatha) Colson of Johnston City, Steve (Patsy) Colson of Jonesboro, Russell (Kelly) Colson of Cambria, Diane (Dennis ) Nance of Cobden, John (Tammy) Colson of Makanda; fifteen grandchildren, Brandon Nance, Tasha Williams, Michael Colson, Crystal Inchcliff, Carmen, Josh and Caleb Colson, Kellen Colson, Staff Sgt. Joseph Colson, Tracy Thompson, Stacy Kelley, Carla Burnett, Tanner and Nathan Cruse and Kimberlee Klump; nine, great-grandchildren, Silas Gwaltney, Caden and Bryson Inchcliff, Troy Williams, Angel Colson, Xander Smith, Aiden, Bentley and Raelynn Colson; two sisters, Bertha Mae Fulk of Carterville and Pearl J. Billips of Jonesboro, AR; brother, Billy Joe Colson of Vienna; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Ethel R "Dolly" Colson; two brothers, Kenny and Lonnie Colson. Henry was a member of the Makanda Baptist Church for many years. He spent his life farming. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Throughout his life Henry was surrounded by his friends and family, always ready for a cup of coffee and a good laugh. During his final weeks he was still surrounded by friends and family. Funeral services for Henry Colson will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2018 in the Makanda Baptist Church with Rev. Ivan Ryan, Joshua Colson and Dennis Nance officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
