Mrs. Hazel M. Dewitt, age 85 of Chana, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at the East Bank Center in Loves Park. She was born October 7, 1926 in Dongola, the daughter of Glenn and Lois Lingle Mowery. She married Gilbert DeWitt on November 12, 1944 in Blytheville, AR. Hazel is survived by her husband Gilbert DeWitt of Chana, children Gareld (Jackie) DeWitt of Oregon, Kenneth (Sharon) DeWitt of Granville, IL, and Diane (Greg) Hodge of Anchorage, AK; three grandchildren, Gary (Chris) DeWitt, Tim (Sai) DeWitt, and Carolyn (Ian) Wheat; five great grandsons, Christopher, Cole, Shayne, Tucker and Cooper; two sisters, Elois Mowery of Jonesboro, Shirley Pool of Vienna; one brother, Carroll (Joyce) Mowery of Dongola; other relatives and many friends. Hazel was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nachusa since 1955. She was a graduate of the Tamms Community High School. Hazel enjoyed working for Hornsby's and Spurgeon's Stores in Rochelle and cooking for the Twelve Mile Corner Restaurant. In her spare time she enjoyed raising flowers and sewing. Memorial services for Mrs. Hazel M. DeWitt will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Dongola with Rev. Tim Heinecke officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Dongola. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Dongola.
