Jonesboro, IL

Grover Leonard (Bud) Nevels, age 86 of Jonesboro, left this world for a better place on May 3, 2020 at the Union County Hospital. He was born October 19, 1933 in Lutesville, MO, the son of Grover C. and Gladys (Kirkpatrick) Nevels. He married Rose (Miller) on December 12, 1955 in Granite City, IL. One of 8 children, Bud grew up on the family farm in Puxico, MO. Although he resided in Jonesboro, IL for the past 42 years; he kept true to his boot hill upbringing by keeping his Missouri drawl and unique pronunciation of words. Quick with a tall tale or interesting fact that usually started with "they say" or "I was told," he shared his life stories with anyone who would listen. Bud was an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His true loves were gardening with his wife, Rose, and playing with his grandchildren. All daily routines stopped when one of them asked to go fishing at the pond or go on a 4-wheeler ride. If he wasn't outside, he could be found in his big recliner with a grandchild or two, watching cartoons or westerns. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Rose Alice Nevels; daughters, Sherry (Wane) Eudy of Omaha, NE and Karen (Mike) Hicks of Anna; grandchildren, Ashley (Sean) O'Neill, Jacob Eudy, Lindsey (Ryan) Sadler, Hailey (Jay) New; great-grandchildren, Addie, Shannon, Liam O'Neill; Landon Sadler; Paisley, Holden , and Anistyn New; step great-granddaughter, Kailey New; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private graveside services will be held for the immediate family. Memorials may be made to the A.J. garden club. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
