Mr. Glenn A. Hickam, age 94 of Murphysboro, died at 3:31 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the Big Muddy Assisted Living in Murphysboro. He was born October 8, 1919 in Alto Pass, the son of George Allen and Meda B. McKinney Hickam. He married Maxine Noble in 1939 in Jackson, Missouri. Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Hickam of Murphysboro; three sons, Jerry Austin (Charlotte) Hickam and their family of Murphysboro, Reginald (Mary Lou) Hickam and their family of Murphysboro, Edwin Darrell (Pamela) Hickam and their family of Carbondale; two brothers, Norman Hickam of Jonesboro and Jesse Hickam of Anna; one sister, Gladys Smithy of Anna; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Aubrey, Cecil and Bryan Hickam and two sisters, Juanita Gaddis and Mabel Minton. Glenn was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Jerusalem Christian Church in Pomona. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, experiencing extensive action during his station in the South Pacific. Glenn loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services for Mr. Glenn Austin Hickam will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Sidney Parham officiating. Interment will be in the Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #127 of Murphysboro and the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Burial Detail of St. Louis, MO. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. The preferred form of remembrance is memorial contributions to the Mt. Pleasant Jerusalem Christian Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
