Gilbert Lee Jones

Gilbert Lee Jones, age 91 of Jonesboro, formerly of Dongola, went home to his Lord and Savior, holding the hand of his loving wife, Friday, February 28, 2025. He was born May 25, 1933 in Anna, the son of Homer and Sybil (Smith) Jones. He married Joann Fear in 1976.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Joann Jones of Jonesboro; children, Kathy Sheffer of Benton, Brenda Dawson of Benton, Blake Reed of St. Louis, and Stacy (Gary) DeHarpart of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Baldwin of Yukon, OK, Jeremy (Lindsey) Sheffer of Benton, Sara (Josh) Hilton of Carterville, Amber Blythe of Benton, Katelynn (Austin) Arrison of Vienna, Garrett (Alivia) Cook of Cypress, Nathan (Jill) Betts of Vienna; thirteen great-grandchildren and two more on the way; one great-great-grandchild on the way; brothers, Wendell Jones of Lick Creek and Jimmy (Bonnie) Jones of Vienna; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons-in-law, Ron Sheffer and Steve Dawson; siblings, Norma Edwards, Clifford Jones, and infant brother, Tommy Jones.

Gilbert was a man of great faith; he loved the Lord, and he dearly loved his family. He was a member of Harvest Church in Anna for many years. Gilbert retired from the Anna Quarry where he worked as a mechanic for twenty-three years. He enjoyed putting around the house, watching NASCAR races and telling a good joke now and then.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Matt Crain officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V. F. W. in Anna. Visitation will be after 12:00 noon and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions are preferred to the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
