Geraldine I. Winstead

Geraldine I. Winstead, age 96 of Carbondale, formerly of Cobden, died Monday, December 16, 2019 at her home. She was born July 31, 1923 in rural Cobden, the fifth of thirteen children born to William Herman and Ruth Rose Brown. She married Glenn Winstead on February 4, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Anna. Geraldine is survived by her loving husband of seventy-four years, Glenn Winstead of Carbondale; sisters, Betty Ruth Hutton of Bourbonnais and Margaret Santos of Huntington Beach, CA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; ten brothers and sisters, Frances, Charlie, Mary, Helen, Janet, William Jr., Walter Allen, Kenneth, Harry Joe, and Lena Jane. Geraldine graduated from Cobden High School in 1941 and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cobden for many years. She and her husband lived on the farm while she worked for Kroger for seventeen years and then retired from the First National Bank in Carbondale after twenty eight years of service. Graveside service will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in the Limestone Cemetery in Cobden with Pastor Ed Falgot officiating. Interment will directly follow. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 Wednesday at the Limestone Baptist Church in Cobden. Everyone attending is asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
