George Samuel Chenoweth, age 96 of Anna died on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born June 29, 1929 in Louisville, KY the son of George William and Kathryn Lambert Chenoweth. He married Mary Ann Plater Kiestler on March 25, 1972 in Anna.
George is survived by his sister, Nancy (Daniel) Bain of St. Augustine, FL; nieces Corey Bain of San Francisco, CA and Laurie Bain of St. Augustine, FL; step-daughter, Kathy (Dave) Hefele of Belleair, FL; three step-granddaughters, Kristin (Jonathan) Polakoff of VA, Lauren Baldassari of Houston, TX, and Megan Baldassari of New Orleans, LA; step-grandson, Tony (Renee) Baldassari of Lake Charles, LA; three step great-grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, William C. Chenoweth.
Mr. Chenoweth studied for his BA and two masters at Southern Illinois University with majors in Geology, Geography, and Educational Psychology. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the Philippines. He spent over three decades teaching, serving as a principal and retired from his career in guidance at Anna Elementary School.
George and his wife were long time members of First Presbyterian Church in Anna, where he served as an elder in earlier years. He published articles on his interests in childhood education and their travel to various locations he and his wife had enjoyed visiting.
Memorial services will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Carl Dillow officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour of 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Veterans Activity Fund for the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
