Mr. Gene Earl Jobe, age 69 of rural Cobden, died at 10:25 am Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on January 12, 1942 in Murphysboro, the son of Kenneth and Susan Jones Jobe.Gene was married to Shirley Dillow on July 21, 1960 in Herrin, IL. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2001.Gene Earl is survived by two sisters, Sue Peters of Benton and Sandra (Gene) Pikula of Cherry, IL; one brother, Ken (Doris) Jobe of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces; nephews, other relatives, friends and his many special friends at the Dialysis Center in Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley and his very special friend, Doris Howell. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the First Baptist Church in Grand Tower. He was a truck driver and was retired from the Transcraft Corporation in Anna. His hobbies included rebuilding and restoring tractors and antique trucks. He also loved to compete in regional tractor pulls and driving his trucks in many different parades. He was honored on WSIL-TV as the Unsung Hero for his contributions at the Dialysis Center in Carbondale. Gene and his wife Shirley had been patients there for a number of years.Funeral services for Mr. Gene Earl Jobe will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with the Rev. Carl Dillow and Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Friends may call at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna from 5 until 8:00 pm on Monday, November 21, 2011. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fresenius Dialysis Center or to the First Baptist Church in Grand Tower. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
