Gary E. Maloy

Gary E. Maloy, age 83 of Cobden, died August 26, 2018 in the Shawnee Christian Village in Herrin. He was born May 20, 1935 in Makanda, the son of Ray and Dorothy (Cavaness) Maloy. He married Shirley Viola Sanders in 1981 in Makanda. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2018. Gary is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (John) Lehr of Pomona; two sons, Lonnie Bobb of Cape Girardeau, MO and Ronnie Bobb of Cobden; two grandchildren, Joshua Bobb and Brittany Howell; two great grandchildren, Jeffery Kade Lence and Reece Nicole-Kay Lence; sisters, Linda Ingram of Texas, Faye McGowan of Jamesport, NY and Sharon (Bill) Butterfield of Topeka, KS; several cousins including Marsha Yates; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Maloy; one brother, Harold Maloy. Gary attended the First Baptist Church in Cobden. He worked as a custodian at the Unity Point School for over 36 years. He enjoyed traveling to Texas, was a number one fan of Elvis and loved to joke around. A special thanks to Karee Sweitzer for caring for his beloved dog, Princess. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in the First Baptist Church in Cobden with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 11:30 on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in the First Baptist Church in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bald Knob Cross. Envelopes will be available at the church and the funeral home.
