Mr. Fred L. Baker, age 81 of Wolf Lake, died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born March 7, 1930 in Dongola, the son of William and Mary Cook Baker. He married Betty Rhodes on March 30, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas. Fred is survived by his wife, Betty Baker of Wolf Lake; one daughter, Pam Baker of Wolf Lake; two sisters, Lucille Dale of Dongola, Violet (John) DeGroate of Channahon, IL; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Geraldine Fisher; brothers in law, Guy Dale and James Fisher; father in law and mother in law, Cletus and Rosie Rhodes. Fred proudly served his country in the artillery during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1991 after working 30 years as a salesman with Sunbeam and Bunny Bread. Fred dearly loved his horses and was a member of the Union County Saddle Club. Fred loved to sing Gospel music, after he was saved; he joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church, and later moved his membership to Beech Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mr. Fred L. Baker will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Donald Fisher officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Marion Military Funeral Honors Team. Friends may call after 12:00 noon and until the service hour on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.Memorial contributions may be made to the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Marion or the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
