Floyd Landis, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother, longtime Southern Baptist deacon, skilled heating and air-conditioning man, sheet metal technician, regional maintenance manager,and more, died Saturday, Aug. 7, in his hometown of Anna, Illinois, after a multi-year struggle with Alzheimer's and vascular dementia. He was 89 years old. Floyd was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Anna, one of nine children of James Monroe and Maggie Mae Phillips Landis. He married Ann Childers on Dec. 24, 1950, at Mill Creek Baptist Church, building a life together that spanned more than 70 years. Surviving Floyd are his wife, Ann Landis of Anna; grandchildren, Kelsey (Jason) Landis Wever of St. Louis and Matt Landis (Ellie)of Kent, Washington; great-grandson, Amos Wever; great-granddaughter, Adaline Landis; daughter-in-law, Debra Chandler Landis of St. Louis; brother, Leonard Landis (Alene) of Anna; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Floyd and Ann's loving and loyal dog, Annie. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Landis; seven siblings; his parents; and other family. When Floyd retired, he was a regional maintenance manager with Drury Inns, a position that took him to Drury sites from El Paso, Texas, to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Springfield, Illinois, among several other cities. Asa teen, Floyd farmed with his father and siblings and later trained and worked in sheet metal, heating, and air conditioning. Floyd owned and operated Landis Heating and Air Conditioning in Anna for several years before selling the business and joining Drury Inns. Floyd was a member of the Jonesboro First Baptist Church. A man of faith and a church deacon for more than 50 years, Floyd led Bible studies, directed church choirs, and was always asked to lead prayer prior to the start of family meals. Floyd brought considerable joy to others, whether it was hosting, with wife Ann, annual Landis family reunions; taking grandchildren on tractor rides when they were young; celebrating birthdays, holidays and other special events with family and friends; and attending his grandchildren's church, school, and sports events. Heinvited people to fish at a pond he designed, built, stocked and maintained, and knowing that laughter was good for the soul, Floyd frequently told funny stories and made witty and wise observations that made one laugh and reflect. A Celebration of Lifeservice is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 at Jonesboro First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorialdonations in Floyd's name can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois inMarion. Rendleman Hileman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will take place at Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek at a later date.
