Mrs. Evelyn A. Stearns, age 78 of Anna, stepped into eternity at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 to be reunited with her loving husband Shirley D. Stearns, whom she longed to see, and meet her Lord and Savior in all His Glory. She was born December 4, 1935 in Oraville, Illinois, the daughter of Theodore and Daisy Wisely Meininger. Evelyn leaves behind a son and his family, Brad (Alice) Stearns of Alto Pass; grand children, Garrett (Andrea) Stearns, their daughter, Piper, Shannon Bittle and her daughter Victoria; a daughter, Sherry (Pat) Poiter of Alto Pass, their daughter, Heather and her children, Mason and Rebeka; a son, Shawn (Kathy) Stearns of Dutch Ridge, grand children, great-grand children and great-great grandchildren, Allan Gulley, Candice Gulley, Gaberial Gulley, Kenneth Earl "JR" Gulley Jr, Kenneth Earl "Trey" Gulley III, Shawn Gulley, Jacob Gulley, Crystal Pugh, Sophia Pugh, Amanda (Robbie) Johnson, Tori, Aubri, Emeri, and Gentri; two sisters, Lola Baskin of Jonesboro and Carol Andress of Murphysboro; one sister in law, Betty Meininger of Lebanon; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Shirley D. Stearns; two brothers, Burlin and Eugene Meininger; one sister, Lawanda Bantel. Evelyn was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Alto Pass for 38 years, serving many years within the congregation in a variety of ministries. She was an avid gardener, loving her flowers and the garden that kept her busy. She and her husband spent their years working the farm they owned and raising their children and grand children. Time spent with the grand children were some of the most important in their lives. They grounded them in the truth of God's word and took them to church faithfully as children. Evelyn worked at Lustour Corporation in Murphysboro in her early years and later in life at South Pass Products and Rendleman's Orchard in Alto Pass... those were good days for her. Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn A. Stearns will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 in the First Baptist Church in Alto Pass with Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 in the First Baptist Church in Alto Pass. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Alto Pass. Envelopes will be available at the church.
