Eugene "Gene" Charles Schaefer

Gene Schaefer, age 94 of Navarre, FL, formerly of Anna, died Saturday, December 14, 2019 at his home. He was born August 19, 1925 in Wolf Lake, the son of Raymond C. and Lena M. (Markert) Schaefer. He married Barbara Peters on January 5, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Gene is survived by is wife Barbara Schaefer of Navarre, FL.; daughters, Carolyn (Tom) Tripp of Anna, Teresa (Paul) McCracken Spicewood, TX, Jeanine Schaefer of Anna, Ramona (Eric) Milles of Paducah, Ky; step-son, Wendell Hastings of Navarre, FL; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren on the way; brother, Jim Schaefer of Jonesboro; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Rachel Denise Schaefer; two brothers, Carrol A. and Cyril Schaefer; and one sister, Ellen Sergeant. Gene honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. In recent years he selected to attended the Honor Flight to Washington, DC with other local veterans and was a member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. He worked many years for Trojan Powder Company in Wolf Lake and later as a security guard. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. Gene and his wife Barbara attended the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro before moving to Florida. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Tony Foeller officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W.in Anna and the Navy Funeral Honor Detail. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 12:00 on Saturday, December 21 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
