Erick L. Hallam, age 66 of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025 at Deaconess Union County Hospital. He was born on December 25, 1958 in San Jose, California, the son of Gregory and Carolyn (Case) Hallam. He married Karen Dietz on May 29, 1992 in Epping, Essex, England.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Hallam; sons, Ian and Connor Hallam; siblings, Aaron (Sue) Hallam, Vicki (Steven) Richards, Robin (Al Wallis) Umphrey and Greg (Jessica) Hallam; half-sisters, Suzanne (Fred) Simpson and Jennifer (Kevin) Carlin; step-brother, Jeff (Vicky) Hoffner; numerous nieces and nephews along with countless colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Scott Hallam.
Erick retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections after 31 years, achieving the rank of Major. His service to our community continued for another 10 years as he worked for the Union County Sheriff's Department, providing security at the Union County Courthouse. Throughout his life, Erick had a passion for helping others. He was a lifetime member of Pontiac Masonic Lodge #294. Erick has been a member of Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge #1641 for 21 years. In the past, he served the lodge as Exalted Ruler, District Deputy to the Grand Exalted Ruler, south district hoop shoot chair and the south district drug awareness chair. In 2004, he ran the Dublin Marathon in Dublin, Ireland to raise money and awareness for leukemia research. Always active, Erick was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, going to the gym and spending time with his family and friends. He will certainly be missed.
Family and friends of Erick Hallam will gather from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, August 4, 2025 at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna for a time of fellowship and remembrance. The celebration of his life will continue at 4:00 pm Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge and again from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Pontiac Elks Lodge. Later this year, a second line will take place in New Orleans to honor Erick's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Special Olympics. Envelopes will be available at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home.
