Edward W. Goetz, age 84 of Anna and formerly of Swansea, Illinois passed away at 4:00 pm, Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born on July 4, 1926 in Collinsville, IL to Edward and Helen (Madden) Goetz. Edward married Betty Stanley and he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg and Edward was a member of the Masonic Lodge #504 and the VFW Post #8677 both in Fairview Heights. Edward attended Ranken Trade School and was an automobile mechanic for 35 years, primarily with Elder Cadillac. His second career started as a maintenance foreman with the St. Clair County courthouse for 15 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed bowling, fishing, and spending time with his family at the lake. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Goetz; two daughters, Sandie (David) Estep of Harrisburg and Jackie (David) Charles of Carbondale; five grandchildren, Matt Charles, Eric (Mariah) Charles, Jenny (John) Lurkins, John Estep and Marie (Shawn) Blake; five great-grandchildren, Sidney, Gabriel, Etta, Alicea, Jonathon, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Goetz and a brother Lee Goetz. We, the family, feel blessed that Edward spent his last years at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. His loving personality was enjoyed by everyone who knew him and the family would like to thank the staff for all the love and kindness shown to Edward and his family. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, Illinois with the Rev. David Estep officiating. In lieu of flowers, the preferred choice of memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna or the VFW Post #8677 in Fairview Heights. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home or the Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights.
