Mr. Edward "Bud" Newton, age 95 of Jonesboro, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015 at his home. He was born September 21, 1919 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of Issac Everett and Rebecca S. (Perry) Newton. He married Kathern "Katie" M. Powell on November 1, 1941 in Oregon, IL. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2012. Bud is survived by his daughter, Karen Oduola of Jonesboro; son, Clark (Janice) Newton of Jonesboro; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathern "Katie" M. Newton; one great-grandchild, Madalynn Taylor; two brothers, Allen and Bill Newton; and two sisters, Alice Ellis and Mary Elkins. Bud was a member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jonesboro. He served as Postmaster in Jonesboro for over thirty years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and retired in 1979 as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a volunteer instructor for Rules of the Road for Senior Citizens, volunteer for the food bank committee, and a Red Cross Volunteer for many years. Bud also served on the RAVE Board of Directors Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jonesboro withRev. Dennis Scoville officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Military Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro and at the church.
