Mr. Edward "Sony" Mercer, age 74 of Anna, formerly of Chicago, died at 4:30 pm Friday, March 23, 2012 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born August 1, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Edward D. and Olga Jackson Mercer. He married Maryann Adamick on December 15, 1964 in Chicago, Illinois.Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Maryann Mercer of Anna; two daughters, Lucinda Mercer of Anna, Diana (Steve) Mercer-Kelley of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Cody Edward Mercer, Dakota Michael Mercer-Szady, Colton Edward Mercer-Szady, Cassidy Maryann Mercer-Szady, and Joshua Kragen Kelley; and one sister, Peggy Jean Unger. He was preceded in death by his father. Eddie proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne Division as a sniper and was awarded the silver wings. He retired in 1994 from National Fiberglass after many years of service. He lived out the rest of his retirement with his family in Anna. Memorial services for Mr. Edward "Sony" Mercer will be at 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Chris Jones officiating. Burial will be held privately. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 pm with the memorial service to follow on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
