Eddie Dean Petty, age 79 of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born December 2, 1946 in Carbondale, the son of Louis T. and Mary Imogene (Bittle) Petty. He married Della Holderfield on November 24, 1965 in Cobden.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Della Petty of Jonesboro; two daughters, Candace (James) Clardy of Pinckneyville and Tamara Graves of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Daniel (Kadie) Clardy, Whitney (Dylan) Shahan, Breanna Clardy (fiancé, Cole Kelly), Luke and Taryn Graves; great-grandchild, Peyton Stewart; son in law, Billy Graves of Anna; two brothers, Steve Petty of Carterville and Kevin Petty of Desloge, MO; brother in law, Ray Highfield of Anna; nieces and nephews; numerous other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney “Rod” Petty and sister-in-law, Earlene Highfield.
Eddie was a “junk ologist”, he enjoyed auctions and antiques. He operated Eddie’s Antiques in downtown Anna for several years. He loved all his cats, and they loved him. He enjoyed being outdoors working in the lawn. He was very giving, always helping anyone in need. Eddie was retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons where he worked as a correctional officer.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Rick McNeely officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cobden Spay & Neuter Coalition. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
