Doris Jean Newman

Doris Jean Newman, age 85 of Anna, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at her home. She was born February 7, 1933 in Granite City, the daughter of Harvey B. and Thelma (Jones) Ottinger. She married Donald Lee Newman on March 2, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1965. Doris Jean is survived by her two sons, Donald Kevin (Judy) Newman and Boyd G. Newman all of Anna; three grandchildren, Brittany J. Simmerman, Dallas Ann Newman, Sara Haynes; two step grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Hall and CJ (Veronica) Moellering; four great-grandchildren, Dixie Simmerman, Anesia Moellering, Olivia Shriver and Quentin Shriver; one brother, Ret. Lt. Col. Harvey Lee (Kay) Ottinger of Vermont; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Lee Newman; sister, Margie Downing and brother, Robert Ottinger. Doris was of the Baptist Faith. She worked as a telephone operator for GTE in Anna and Carbondale. Later she worked for twenty five years at Tuck Tape until her retirement. Doris was a caring, loving lady, that was strong willed and a very hard worker. She dearly loved her family and will be missed by everyone. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
