Mr. Donald G. Linson, 77 of Jonesboro, died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Jonesboro Rehab & Healthcare Center in Jonesboro. He was born July 27, 1933 at Ware, IL the son of Henry D. and Maple Morse Linson. He was married to Alma Kimmel on February 27, 1954 in Corinth, MS. They were married for 56 years and would have celebrated 57 years this month. Donald is survived by his wife, Alma Linson of Jonesboro; one sister-in-law, Carrie Hill of Anna; 7 nephews, Russell(Jo)Hill of Jonesboro, Larry(Jean)Hill of Anna, Marion(Joyce)Hill of Dongola, Ronald(Sherry)Hill of Creal Springs, Richard(Phyllis)Tweedy of Wolf Lake, Rick(Marcia)Schaefer of St. Genevieve, MO, & Randy(Diana)Schaefer of Jonesboro; 2 nieces, Joyce(Gene)Plott of Anna and Sharon Morgan of Anna; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Also, very special cousins, Getty Abernathy of Wolf Lake, Betty Sanders of Marion, Nadine(Dick)Davis of Anna, & Louella(Paul)Morgan of Jonesboro; a special & dear friend, Jack Theriac of Anna; and many other relatives and friends.Don was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Henry D. Linson Jr.; father & mother-in-law, Manuel & Norma Kimmel; 2 brothers-in-law, Merl & Paul Kimmel, and 3 sisters-in-law, Eula Tweedy, Beulah Hill, & Gloria Schaefer.Don made a profession of faith to God at the age of 12 at the Ware Baptist Church. He was also baptized at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.Don was a correctional officer at Menard Correctional Center in Chester and was retired as a lieutenant on July 26, 1989. He will be remembered as the gun range manager & instructor for many correctional officers across Southern Illinois. Don was a top marksman and was recognized by the State of Illinois. He was on the Governor's Top Twenty Marksmanship list while at Menard. Funeral Services for Mr. Donald G. Linson will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Joe Aldridge and Rev. Todd Plunkett officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
