Donald E. "Don" Qualls, age 81 of Cape Girardeau, Mo, formerly of Union County, died at 1:39 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 in the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born November 20, 1934 in Gorham, the son of Charles Clarence and Mary E. (Lindsey) Qualls. Don married June Smith on March 27, 1954 at Beech Grove Baptist Church. Together they shared sixty-two years of marriage. Don is survived by his loving wife, June Qualls of Cape Girardeau, Mo; two daughters, Tamela Loomis of Jonesboro, LaDonna (Gene) Schippers of Cape Girardeau, MO; grandchildren, Jamin (Katlyn) Schippers, Jared (Jacquelynne) Schippers, Diane (Tim) McKillip, and Kelly Loomis; a great-grandchild on the way in June, Alayna Kinley Schippers, Kimber, Ashley Loomis, Courtney Kerchner, Amy and Chrissy McKillip; sisters, Betty (Earlis) Glodo of East Cape, IL, Marge Parker of Cape Girardeau, MO; brother in law, Charles Ray Smith of Hartford, KY; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Scott Loomis; brother, Bill Qualls; son in law, Forrest Loomis and brother in law, Bill Parker. Don was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau. He served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher, and also served as the interim pastor for the Nazarene Church in Gorham. In 1984 Don went to Haiti on a mission trip to build Churches and Schools, and helped build the Assembly of God Church in Harrisburg. Don's family had a quartet that would sing in several local area churches, even going to several national quartet conventions. Don was ready to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a kind, gentle and loving man, he was a loyal husband and loving father. He will be loved forever and forever missed. Don loved tomatoes, but not catsup, he also loved John Deere tractors and farming. During his live he worked on the river, and the railroads. He was a custodian at Shawnee High School and would Referee ballgames. He worked for IDOT building bridges and roads, Sunbeam Bread and CIPS until his retirement. Funeral services for Mr. Donald E. "Don" Qualls will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Pastor Phil Roop officiating. Interment will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:00 noon and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
