Dawn Marie Lackey

Mrs. Dawn Marie Lackey, age 92 of Anna, died at 9:23 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015 in the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. She was born July 31, 1923 in Olmstead, the daughter of Nello Everett Sr. and Edna M. Calvin Bankson. She married George W. Lackey on November 26, 1948 in Piggott, Arkansas. Dawn is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, George W. Lackey of Anna; three daughters, Jeri (Gary) Knupp of Jonesboro, Ann (Dennis) York of Anna, and Pam Schlenker of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Richard) York, Chris (Kris) Knupp, Elizabeth Knupp, Dennis Lee (Debbie) York, Cassie (Zack) Cohen, and Kim Schlenker; eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Ervin, two infant sisters, Joyce and Thelma Bankson; three brothers, Jim Bill Bankson, Nello Everett Bankson Jr. and George A. Bankson; and one son in law, Donnie Schlenker. Earlier in her career Dawn worked as a teacher and later she and her husband owned and operated the Dixie BBQ in Jonesboro for many years. She was a life member of the Eastern Star and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Graveside services for Mrs. Dawn Marie Lackey will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in the Anna City Cemetery with John Shelton officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Hospital Auxiliary.
